Inoko mochi [1] from Eifukuya!

That’s right, it’s that popular shop which always has a queue outside of it everyday. Every year, on the first day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar, which is the day of the boar, they sell inoko mochi. When I first came here, I heard that it both looked and tasted good.

I went to buy inoko mochi every year and I learned a surprising thing there. Eifukuya wouldn’t accept first time customers. I had to make lots of effort to even make myself known there, never mind buying inoko mochi.

Come to think of it, that was the first time Toshi got angry and told me to stop buying sweets. Well, that’s not important though.

I thought that the next year would be my year, but I was preoccupied with Shinsengumi business on that day. I thought about whether to send someone on an errand, but because they were sweets that I very much wanted to try, it was more meaningful for me to buy them myself.

I gave up in the end. Then finally, last year, I ran to buy them first thing in the morning, and then discovered another surprising thing.

Unbelievably, the inoko mochi had to be reserved! I regretted my lack of research. I even thought I wouldn’t be able to die without eating the inoko mochi from Eifukuya. Hmm? You’re asking if I’m going to eat them? To be honest, I can’t eat them. They’re sweets that I’ve waited for many years to have, you see. Eating them all by myself seems an unfortunate thing to do. But it would be difficult to hide this many sweets. I don’t want them to be eaten by mice or taken away by Toshi either.
