Cymbaline, по признанию Уотерса, была написана после ночного кошмара, который он испытал незадолго до начала работы над альбомом, и первоначально являлась под названием «Nightmare» частью сюиты «The Man». В отсутствии Баррета Роджер фактически остался во главе группы, и это новое положение со всей его ответственностью легло на него тяжким грузом.

Доктор Стрейндж – герой комиксов, пользовавшийся особенной популярностью в психоделической тусовке, который обладал способностью изменять свою внешность и переноситься в другие измерения. Что же касается названия песни, то, возможно, оно имеет какое-то отношение к пьесе Шекспира «Cymbeline», хотя непонятно, какое именно.
